She intended to wait on the front steps but she’d forgotten the rain, now driving down in a heavy sheet. He hadn’t. ‘Good old British weather,’ he commented when she slipped back inside. He was still seated on the stairs and Kate felt as long as he stayed his distance, she could ignore him.
It was a non-committal sound as Kate worried if he might pass his observation on to Howard.
